We are very proud to share that our Conservation Officer and Facilitator of the Binational Strategy for the Conservation of Darwin's Frogs, Claudia Faure Brauning, has been appointed Deputy Chair of the Chilean Regional Working Group of the Amphibian Specialist Group (ASG) of the Species Survival Commission (SSC) of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

This appointment, covering the period 2026-2029, places her in a role of technical leadership, regional coordination, and a bridge between Chile's local scientific and conservation community and the global structure of the IUCN.

This new role will see her working alongside the Group's current Chair, Claudio Azat, in a role of technical leadership, regional coordination, and a bridge between the local scientific and conservation community and the global structure of the IUCN.

Among her lines of work will be coordinating amphibian research and conservation activities at a regional level, organising local membership, and proactively bringing in new specialists in the field.

Claudia will also support the assessments of the Amphibian Red List Authority (ARLA) regarding the region's amphibian biodiversity, mobilise local members to support the ASG's Thematic Working Groups and Task Forces, and build ties with like-minded groups across the country — such as herpetological and zoological societies and other NGOs — to explore strategic partnerships.

Claudia's track record in fieldwork, public policy, and environmental education, built up over years at ONG Ranita de Darwin, was considered fundamental to this appointment helping to strengthen Chile's position on the international amphibian conservation agenda.

At ONG Ranita de Darwin, we celebrate this step and reaffirm our commitment to continue working so that Chile's voice resonates strongly in global conservation spaces.
