ABOUT US

Founded in 2016, NGO Ranita de Darwin is the first Chilean non-profit Organization dedicated specifically to the conservation, research and dissemination of knowledge of amphibians in Chile and their habitats.

The purpose or mission of the NGO Ranita de Darwin is to contribute to the conservation of amphibians in Chile and their habitats, through research, inclusion and community development, enhancement and management of the country's natural heritage.

Our Vision is to become an organization that promotes sustainable use and valorisation of Chile
natural heritage, promoting community development and the management of natural resources based on scientific evidence in order to strengthen the conservation of amphibians and their habitats.

Why is our emblem Darwin's frog?

Darwin's frog has very particular parental care: the male incorporates the tadpoles into his vocal sac and shelters them for several weeks, until they grow and transform into tiny froglets, which are later returned to the forest. Just as Darwin's frog shelters its offspring and ensures its survival, we seek the protection and survival of amphibians in Chile, which are highly threatened by human activity.
